A cold, delicate hand grabs yours and pulls. It pulls, and it pulls... there's a sense of urgency in this icy grasp, as well as a trace of reluctance. Abruptly the hand let's go, right as your vision fades to black, and for a brief moment, only a brief moment, your senses disappear. There's only the eerie sensation of weightlessness before your feet are settled back on solid ground again.

What happens to you doesn't have anything to do with what you deserve. It's just what happens.

She clutches the skull tightly, like one would a doll. Janta just shudders.

"And what 'just happens' is enough to prove this is how it should be. What kind of memory would you like to see? Death? Heartbreak? Immense disappointment? I have numerous of these types."

Again, she sounds dead serious.

. . . and yet, the hopes and dreams keep existing, don't they? And you do have good things happen too, amidst the bad memories.

You know a lot of people who've lived hard lives, don't you? Do you really think they deserve unhappiness too?

"When good things happened to Hail, I made sure to remind the rest of the heart that good things don't belong here. And those people probably do deserve the unhappiness, if it keeps happening to them."

The two things don't correlate...!

He's right. If good things happen, wouldn't that mean that good things deserved to happen too, anyway? They don't have anything to do with each other.

The girl clenches the skull tightly.

"Then I will make it so...! I will make sure there is a bad thing for Hail. As long as I am here, I can promise it!"

Or you can try and help her move on from bad things! You've got a lot of strength -- you can turn it another way, and change!

Why just make more bad stuff for yourself? It doesn't make any sense.

Her voice takes on a condescending tone.

"Because this is what she deserves. Besides... can 'bad' people really change? Can they? I'm certain... there are quite a few bad people who refuse to change. And instead, Hail has had to change for them, and now, I am here, to help her change into something she can accept, too."

. . . are you saying you're bad because bad things happened to you now? Because other people refused to change for you?

[THIS DOES NOT SOUND LEGIT]

"I am bad because bad things happened to that echo. But not because other people refused to change for me. That is only an example."

That wasn't the point! Saying you're bad because bad things happened to you is just...! What about the good things; don't they count for anything?

"That is a problem. You see... I may not have been blunt. I am not the good things at all. I cannot understand them. It's not who I am. The good things are in that doll."

She just looks at Janta, who in turn looks away immediately.

*also...stepping closer.*

So why can't the two of you work together?

Sad things and happy things happen to everyone. Hell, maybe your life has had more of one than the other. But that doesn't mean it can't change!

Janta gasps, and just shakes its head over and over.

"No, no no no no... no, I cannot work with someone who makes me feel this terrible...!"

The Hail simply stares at it, thinking about your words carefully.

"I refuse to change."

*reaches out to take one of Hail's hands again, if she'll let him.*

Why did you separate yourselves out so hard...?

And why don't you want to change? You said it was a problem too.

This time her skin burns with an intense, blistering heat.

"Because I was born from the very thoughts that make her want to kill herself. And I think she deserves to think this way. Are you two done annoying me?"

*sets his teeth against it*

...no. No, we're not.

If you can give us a reason for her deserving it besides "it happened," maybe you'd have a chance of convincing us. Maybe if you could tell us why someone deserving something matters, too.
