[OOC] sotu?!

Initially I meant to type a simple SoTU for Echo/Zwei that I hoped to keep strictly relevant to plot happenings, but even then a lot of the background noise going on with this girl was too important to leave out...

Next thing I know, it got to be, like, 3k words long? I'm. I'm so sorry. This is why I will never essay ever again. Not to mention there's, like, little to no organizational skills going on... '-'a

Just so it exists somewhere, here's some clarification on how Echo and Zwei operate:

- While Zwei is in control, Echo is unaware (she knows of nothing Zwei does; she is literally enclosed in the dark recesses of their mind.*)
- While Echo is in control, Zwei is well aware (she knows of everything Echo does; she watches and hears everything.)

*save for the occasional slip-up, it seems.

Zwei has more control than her mostly present counterpart because she is, in fact, the original owner of the body; Echo is the “additional” personality that was created out of thin air... or trauma, your call is as good as mine. (I speculate that Echo was born if only so Zwei could stick close to Vincent/the Nightrays without causing anyone to do so much as bat their eyes at her. After all, it’s much easier to disregard a quiet, obedient servant than a loud, violent psychopath.) Zwei has known of this fact since she first appeared in Aather. Echo, on the other hand, was only made aware of her questionably faulty existence just days before this plot took place. That said, this awareness issue plays a pretty big role, especially seeing as Echo has no recollection whatsoever of the events that took place. This has left Echo struggling to fit the pieces together.

Let’s go over the reasons why Zwei hates Turquoise in the first place. When she arrived, everyone questioned her presence, some of them going as far to insist that Zwei was intruding Echo’s body, which is completely contrary to how Zwei saw it. Then, they insisted that, since Zwei is in Echo's body, she's one of them now—yeah, no, Zwei was not having any of that. If Echo wants to wear a blinding shade of blue and spend time with these people in her own time, then fine by her (I’m pretty sure Zwei actually ICly said it like that, too...); Zwei had no plans to take part in Echo’s life as she was, plain and simple, uninterested in Echo's business. Zwei wanted to do her own things, and that involved clinging to Vincent and maiming people. Wonderful things! Of course, the kicker for Zwei, sending Turquoise beyond the line of intolerable and unforgivable for her, was the fact that everyone seemed to be concocting plans to get remove her. It infuriated her that they saw her as a nuisance when this body was RIGHTFULLY her own. Formerly, Vincent instructed Zwei to leave Turquoise be, and, as much as she loved Vincent, she was perfectly okay with snapping and going against his word to set things straight with Turquoise—that is just how she is. I would like to say that, even if Vincent had not set his plot into motion at all, Zwei was ready to stage an attack on Turquoise as soon as, oh, 2-3 IC days from day 129-ish. Vincent’s invitation only made her act that much sooner on this urge.

That said, it was made pretty obvious that Zwei was insulted when Yayoi tried to talk with her, you know, before her untimely death. First Turquoise rejects her, and now they (Yayoi only, really) are trying to pull her back into their ~loving arms~. As much as she’s wondering what the hell is going on with Yayoi—Zwei thinks she’s confused and completely getting an incorrect reading on the situation—she still hates them all with a burning passion. Zwei suspiciously interpreted Yayoi’s attempt at conversation as an act to get an apology out of Zwei, or as means to try to make things right between them because Yayoi soooo knows she would have been dead meat if 2/7 of Iolite didn’t show up on the scene!! In the end, the conversation attempt just pissed Zwei off. At least she got to yell her opinions before being kissed to death...?

After dying, Zwei feels like she was stabbed in the back. Rejected. Abandoned. All sorts of lovely words that mean TOSSED AWAY LIKE NOTHING. Seriously, the only person in Aather she trusted (and loved! She loved Vincent!) killed her, and after the ~kiss of death~ he gave her reasons—most of which she honestly didn't understand—as to why her death was just in his eyes. She didn't have time to pay much notice to the Vincent attack stage because 1) hallucinatory drug taking effect and killing her quickly and 2) a bit too much shock from Vincent rejecting her like that. So, between dying and being stricken with despair (b-both due the poison and Vincent), she's not sure where she stands with anything anymore. Right now she’s hiding in Echo, observing and popcorn.giffing as Echo and co. deals with the aftermath of her actions, and occasionally cocking an eyebrow when Yayoi says... considerate things about her. She is also taking great pleasure in Echo's lost reactions, of course.

Now, hypothetically speaking, if Vincent were to inform Zwei that ALL OF THIS was just some dastardly plan of his, Zwei's faith in him would very likely be restored. She wouldn't even be distressed that he ‘didn’t bother to tell her’ because she would just be so thrilled that Vincent involved her in one of his plots. He let her kill someone, what joy! And her own death? She could forgive that. This is Vincent, why would she deny him her love when she herself has never once questioned why she loved him in the first place? She would even gush at the fact that he let her go with a kiss. ♥

So, no, I'm really not joking when I say that Vincent plays a huge role in the way Zwei thinks/lives. Which is now why Zwei, abandoned with nothing to look forward to in Aather except for TORTURING/KILLING, which people are seeking to oppress, too, is now questioning the point in sticking around if she can’t find herself able to return to Vincent’s side, especially since she’s stuck sharing her body with Echo, not to mention being surrounded by that blasted Turquoise. Sooooooo yeah, Zwei is a mess. Unlike Echo, who scrambles to try to figure out how to hold all of these feels, Zwei just resolves this little issue by simply getting angry at everything... which will probably not hold up very well? Results may or may not show up later, of course, depending on how things develop from here on out.

Truthfully, Zwei would love to chase after Vincent right this instant and beg for an explanation! But... haha. HAHAHA. Yeah, no. I'm not even up for that yet. We'll just say that Echo can restrain her more easily at the moment since Zwei is simply not in a good state of mind... ignoring the fact that Echo herself is not in a very good state of mind either. Shhh...

Speaking of the unemotional girl, right now she is so overwhelmed with feelings that she can't think straight about anything. She's exhausted. She didn't get much rest. She doesn’t know how to properly handle or channel any of this. Normally Echo bottles her thoughts and feelings, but this is just too much; she can only contain so much at a time before it's overbearing, and it crossed that line quite a bit ago. Learning that she is responsible for Oz’s death, that she/Zwei was killed as well, figuring out for herself that Turquoise was put in harm’s way, and that Turquoise is now putting themselves in Ruby’s harm’s way instead of letting Echo take the wheel, and so on. Just... yeah. There are too many feels. Should I mention that there are still large pieces of the puzzle that Echo hasn’t figured out yet? Things such as Breeze being targeted by Zwei, a percentage of Aather knowing about the murder—perhaps some hoping to bring justice to the suspect (or is this just Flynn...)—and the excruciating details of how Oz was murdered... she doesn’t know about any of that (...yet?)

As for Zwei dying, she can't grasp a sure reason why Vincent pulled that in the end. Echo is under the impression that Zwei did something wrong to warrant such a punishment...? After all, Zwei killed Oz, but Echo’s not sure if that was enough to upset Vincent, considering what she remembers Vincent being awfully indifferent towards him at the very least. In fact, Echo is speculating that killing Oz was somehow Vincent's intent? Perhaps to mess with her?? And honestly, Echo doesn’t care about Zwei’s death; the only thing that mattered is that Echo had to suffer from it along with her, at least regarding the poison part since Zwei suffered a broken heart, too... Anyway, Echo has so many questions, none of which she truly cares enough about to have answered at the moment. Though Echo recalls various incidents from her memories, Echo reluctantly accepts that she can’t truly figure out Vincent's thought process or his detailed logic behind much of anything. All she knows is that Vincent is calculating, clever, and capable of many, many potentially worrisome things.

Now, why is Echo having this unreal, extreme paranoia over Vincent? First off, Echo is scared of him. That would be enough said, but there is more to this. Before the start of this mess, Vincent held Echo’s freedom over her head, asking what couldn't he take from her, and Echo (so regretfully) answered: her team—not when she heard that he and Breeze haven’t spoken in a while, since his friendship with Breeze was what kept Echo on her toes in the first place. Vincent simply responded that he already had a use for them. Confused, and suddenly stricken with worry that taking this conversation any further with what might be at stake here could end disastrously for her, Echo did not persist and simply allowed Zwei to take control.

Having revived, Echo drew the conclusion that THIS—the whole “Ruby wants to get at Turquoise for killing one of their own”—must be the "use" Vincent was talking about. What exactly he meant as a “use,” she doesn’t know, but this has to be what he was talking about, Echo is just convinced of it. Of course Vincent would go to great lengths to make her suffer, of course he would pull Turquoise down with her, of course he would potentially endanger more lives in the process, this is all so clear (...) to Echo. As I said before, Echo knows that Vincent’s thought process is a very complicated one. Normally she would not care to figure it out! However, she has jumped all of the conclusions because she thinks that, in order to get an idea on Vincent, she has to think of every idea and work around every corner. But instead, this way of handling the situation at hand has just made Echo into a deluded, paranoid wreck who's frightened and literally throwing her life away just because she wants this all to end and she feels terrible that Turquoise and Oz was involved in something she believes they shouldn’t be troubled with at all AND something she truly could have prevented if she had the confidence.

Echo's goal in the present is, to put it quite vaguely, to simply put an end to the Turquoise-Ruby tension. She wants everything to return to the way it was. That's why she thinks that, basically, sacrificing herself for a simple “just killing” or two will make things right and not require anymore drastic measures... well, any more drastic measures than that. Honestly? The idea terrifies Echo. She doesn't really want to die—she isn’t having suicidal thoughts here—but if she can simply come back to life here, she'd be willing to tolerate the pain she’s so afraid of enduring if she thinks it’d bring about a good end for Turquoise. Echo sees no benefit in her teammates defending her and holding off on solving the problem by hiding and being absolutely distrustful of just about everyone. She’s already upset that Turquoise was dragged into a mess she believes that they shouldn’t even have to trouble themselves over. She’s also very tsun at the concept of them caring so much, too.

That said, Echo can't help but feel that she must take some responsibility for Oz's death. She accepts that she was the one who allowed Zwei to have control. SHE LET HER HAVE IT, and it pains Echo that she even had a knife pointed at Vincent before it happened. Unfortunately, she was just too afraid go through with an attack. Assuming Vincent just wanted Zwei to get some air and talk, Echo let Zwei have the reigns. Waking up to a huddle of upset Turquoise that same evening really made her regret being weak enough to let it happen.

To put it bluntly, Echo pretty much wants to throw herself at Ruby and offer up her life so they will leave Turquoise be.

Echo’s even uncomfortable with Vincent taking punishment for this because, again, she is afraid of what he’ll do about it afterwards. Yes, she has some satisfaction, maybe schadenfreude would be the better term, from seeing everyone hating on Vincent, but she’s still fearful and confused. All she knows is that Vincent killed Zwei, but why is everyone upset that Vincent killed Zwei?! SHOULDN’T THERE BE REJOICING?? Carrying on, Echo is absolutely unaware that he pulled this stunt on purpose, so now she thinks that putting Vincent on the spot will put her in a bad position, too. Guys, let’s just offer my life to Ruby and forget this incident happened, okay, pretend Vincent was never involved and don’t do anything to him. The bastard endangered us like this, he could surely do something worse than this in the future to get back at us! The girl is just so paranoid right now...

So, as of the morning of 131, Echo and Zwei have already heard quite a bit about Zwei’s feelings being taken into consideration, and I figured I'd touch on that, too, while I'm here, because why not. Well, I have good news and bad news.

The good news: Zwei is currently confused by Yayoi’s kindness and concern. This is good news because, well, a confused Zwei is better than a hostile one? Which is what she could be right now? Except, thank the heavens, she's not? I mean, yeah, she still hates Turquoise, but right now it’s not enough to pull anything violent out of her thanks to this confusion. At least, not yet. Haha.

The bad news: Echo’s not okay with Zwei being part of the decisions they're making regarding the situation at hand. The sudden “we feel bad for Zwei, she should get in on this, too” is startling for Echo. Nothing like Zwei taking control of their body, Echo reviving, having no idea what just happened, and realizing that Zwei is cared for now despite being part of the blame here. She's confused—didn't Zwei kill Oz? Echo's not going to simply forgive her for that. Right now, as it stands, Echo refuses to think that this is okay considering she is still pretty afraid of Zwei and still very much wants rid of her.

But really, this is bothering Echo and it has her upset, especially regarding this recent, surprising development, as she called it herself. Now that she knows that Zwei hears and sees all, Echo's left with the worry that Turquoise may not be upfront and honest with her about some things. At least, things that would concern Zwei, and now Echo feels a little... I don't know, affected? It's like the kids who receive timeout because one bad apple ruined it for everyone. Of course, Echo hasn't formed any full thoughts on the matter, she's still very confused and distraught, but this is definitely how she feels. All I can say is that, if Echo knew they had a choice to revive just her, Echo would have been... pretty upset with Yayoi. At the least, very let down.

I also want to briefly touch on how Echo acquired all of this dere for Turquoise at some point, especially considering she used to judge them all fairly harshly, as a lot of this development happened off-screen during Echo’s time to herself. Her memories made her realize that her past was much different—as in much worse—than her current life in Aather. Save for Oz, who is a special case in Echo’s eyes, Echo had nobody in her life who was genuinely concerned for her well-being and friendly towards her and whatnot. Vincent and Zwei did as they pleased with her life, treating her as a stand-in puppet/chew toy, all while she was conditioned to believe that she had no right to speak up or fight against it. Echo accepted that Turquoise is the closest she's ever going to have to people who really care so much, like a family, though not in that way? SO, SUDDENLY, IT WAS AN INFLUX OF TURQDERE. Okay, not a giant overload at first, but she clung to the idea of Turquoise being there for her, and as much as she tsuns and gets upset when they care too much, she's genuinely touched and so relieved to have people like that around her. Thus, SO MUCH TURQDERE... Tsunturqdere to be more precise since Echo is still >|!!!! about it to some extent... BUT YES.

tl;dr Echo is exercising so much caution when it involves Vincent, Zwei is forced to question her devotion to Vincent, Echo still wants rid of Zwei, Zwei still hates Echo, Echo loevs Turquoise, Zwei hates Turquoise and is suspicious of their intentions, Echo is making herself accept the responsibility for Oz’s death, Zwei intends to popcorn.gif as Echo and Turq handle her consequences, Echo is afraid of what’s going to happen next, Zwei hopes Echo and Turquoise gets fucking stoned to death or something, Echo is going to lose it again because she feels as if she’s regressing to her past self, Zwei is perfectly okay with that and is hoping it wears her down so she can have rightful control, and now both of them are doubtful about their existence since Echo knows she’s in a body she can’t call her own and Zwei’s life revolves around Vincent and he’s rejected her, so. '-'a

...WOW THAT WAS A LONG, CONFUSING TL;DR, but if you don’t intend to read all of this it’s a good place to turn to...?

I jumped around all over the place... I'm open to questions and comments, of course. HOPEFULLY THIS BLOCK OF TEXT MADE SENSE. :|d

Echo ;;

Regarding zwei-- Sakura thinks that if they're taking revenge on Vincent, then Zwei should rightfully get a shot at him too, because omg Vincent is a dick. She loves you and that's how you treat her? But overall it's not like she actually likes Zwei or anything. If they became a team of 7+1 she'd deal, because she had planned to deal in the first place... but as she was trying to remind Breeze when they argued, Zwei was hostile and homicidal long before Turq started plotting to get rid of her. He bad behavior is not soley reactionary, and even if it IS reactionary that doesn't excuse killing Oz. She would tolerate Zwei's presence but has no intention of liking her.

She is however way in favor of shifting as much of the blame off Zwei(/Echo) and onto Vincent as possible, just because like...a) she is nearly certain it's all Vincent's fault anyway, as far as ordering Zwei goes, and b)it's impossible as it stands right now to "punish" Zwei without also harming Echo. So. Look Ruby your target is---> over there. :x

Huhuhu . . . Yeah, Vincent will wait to see how Echo and by counterpart Zwei is handling to see where to push next. He has his spin on the story put together, but there are all these strings just laying there . . . :3c

Also, indulgently, I am excited to see where Zwei goes from here. It's definitely a huge stray from canon, but completely in line with the way of life in Aather. So, yes, I am excited for this~ ♥

You're the best, bb. I will keep saying it.
